Project Objectives

To increase access to quality maternal and newborn health services for the char communities. To improve maternal and newborn health through positive behaviors and practices among the family members and community gatekeepers of the char areas. To ensure essential maternal and newborn health services by creating an enabling environment in the char areas. The Mamota Project began its work in Gaibandha district with the aim of reducing preventable maternal and child mortality through the implementation of project activities. The project primarily focuses on improving the quality of services at government Union Health Centers in remote areas and ensuring maternal and newborn health services. In its first phase, the project implemented activities in coordination with government service providers across 11 unions under four upazilas of Gaibandha district—Gaibandha Sadar, Sundarganj, Saghata, and Fulchhari. In the second phase, covering from January 2024 to December 2026, the project includes two additional unions in its program. These are Kapasia Union of Sundarganj upazila and Kamarjani Union of Gaibandha Sadar upazila. Target population: Pregnant mother, lactating mother, Newborn, Low Birth Weight (LBW) newborn, Married and unmarried adolescent, Women and men of reproductive age.

Expected Outcomes

1. To increase accessibility to quality MNH services by char communities. 2. To enhance adoption of project promoted MNH behaviours and practices by char communities. 3. To improve enabling environment for char MNH services.
